Gefen DVI Detective Plus (EXT-DVI-EDIDP)

EDID stands for Extended Display Identification Data. It is the standard table of characteristics of a display that is used by the source to optimize its output resolution, timing, and other operating parameters. When a display is switched off, de-selected by a matrix/switcher, or disconnected and then reconnected, the EDID can be lost. If this occurs, the video source device may lose its ability to output the correct image instantly.

The Gefen DVI Detective Plus addresses this issue by recording the EDID from a display and making it available to a source at all times, as if the display is still connected. The EXT-DVI-EDIDP also passes through the communications between an HDCP-enabled source and display as necessary. The DVI EDID Detective Plus has been designed for quick and easy programming and installation with 1 local and 5 pre-programmed EDID profiles that can be used in the event that a suitable EDID cannot be recorded.

The DVI Detective Plus provides all the functionality of the DVI Detective N and adds HDCP pass through and the ability to use one of (5) pre-programmed EDID profiles. For (6) pre-programmed + (6) user-programmed EDID Banks, see the HDMI Detective Plus (DVI with passive adapter).

EXT-DVI-EDIDP Highlights

Simple Set-Up & Flexible EDID Operation
After a simple initial programming step involving only the monitor and the DVI Detective, you simply connect the video source on one side of the DVI Detective and the extension module or switcher on the other side. If a suitable EDID cannot be recorded, there are (5) pre-programmed EDID profiles with convenient standard HDTV resolutions and multi-channel audio settings.
After initial setup, no power or buttons are required for operation of the DVI Detective Plus.
HDCP Pass-through for HDTV equipment
The EXT-DVI-EDIDP supports selectable HDCP pass-through for HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection) devices such as projectors, Blu-ray players, video game systems, and satellite TV boxes.
High Definition EDID Support
The DVI Detective Plus supports High Definition DVI or VGA* resolutions up to 1920x1200, 2K, and 3840x2400 / 4K Ultra HD (Dual Link).
*DVI Detective Plus is equipped with DVI ports, but it is also compatible with VGA by using VSA-11 DVI-I to VGA adapters (available separately).

Ensure Perfect Match Between Source & Display
The Gefen DVI Detective Plus memorizes the EDID profile of the connected source and the display. This Virtual EDID ensures perfect video resolution and frequency timing. Activating the write-protection switch on the outside of the unit will lock the settings from to prefent any accidental over-ride.
Prevent Inactive DVI Ports
The Gefen DVI Detective Plus fools the computer into thinking that a display is present, even when the port is inactive or the display is switched away to another computer. This prevents computer systems from deactivating inactive DVI ports, and ensures consistant resolution and frequency regardless of operation.
Compact & Portable
With a 2.7"W x 1.5"H x 2"D footprint and only ~0.2 lbs of mass, the Gefen EXT-DVI-EDIDP takes up less space than a pack of cigarettes and weighs about ½ of an iPhone 6. Flexible EDID Programming

The EXT-DVI-EDIDP provides 2 flexible EDID banks for convenient switching & setting of EDID profiles for any application. The EXT-DVI-EDIDP features (1) Local EDID bank for easy EDID detection of any monitor plugged in without any software. If a suitable EDID cannot be recorded, there are (6) default preset EDID banks for the most common settings.

Recording (1) Local EDID
Using (5) Preset EDIDs

Before using the DVI Detective, the unit must be programmed with an EDID. In most cases, the DVI Detective should be programmed with the EDID of the display (or other sink device) to which you are connecting the source. Once programmed, the EDID data will be read by the source, providing all the necessary details of the type of signal that the display (or other sink device) can process. Although any DVI Detective can be programmed with any EDID, the display (or other sink device) must be able to support those features. Default EDID profile manipulation can be handled through simple external buttons or by using a source device/signal generator. We will cover choosing the Default EDID profile using the external button method below - Please refer to the manual for recording EDID using a source device/signal generator.

Begin by powering-on the display (or other sink device) containing the EDID to be recorded. Connect a DVI cable from the sink device to the DVI Out port on the DVI Detective Plus.
Move the WR switch to the "E" position in order to allow the EDID to be written to the DVI Detective.
Set all four DIP switches in the OFF (down) position, as shown in the illustration below.
Connect the included 5V DC power supply to the DVI Detective Plus. The power LED will glow bright green if the sink device contains a valid EDID. If the sink's EDID is corrupt or invalid, then the power LED will glow bright red.
Press and hold the Program button on the front panel of the DVI Detective Plus until the power indicator begins to rapidly flash bright green, then release the Program button. The power LED will continue to flash as the EDID is written to the DVI Detective Plus.
Move the WR switch to the "D" position to prevent accidental erasure of the EDID.
The EDID programming process is complete!

The DVI Detective Plus includes (5) built-in EDIDs for use with several standard home theater setups with multi-channel audio and standard HD resolutions. See Native Supported EDID Profiles for a resolutions and frequencies supported.

Make sure that the write switch on the DVI Detective Plus is in the "E" position and that all DIP switches are in the OFF (down) position.
Select the desired EDID from the Resolutions column below.
Set DIP switches 1 - 3 on the DVI Detective Plus using the DIP Switches column. DIP switch 4 is not used when programming an EDID.
Connect the included 5V DC power supply to the DVI Detective. The Power LED, on the other side of the unit, will glow solid red.
Press and hold the Program button on the front panel of the DVI Detective Plus until the power indicator begins to rapidly flash bright green, then release the Program button.
Once the EDID has been recorded, the Power LED will glow bright red.
Move the WR switch to the "D" position to prevent accidental erasure of the EDID.
The EDID programming process is complete!
