Question: will the VAD-27 VGA/DVI-I adapter work on the DVI cables for the SC740 switch?
Answer: Thank you for your inquiry. Yes, the VAD-27 will work with the appropriate SC740 cables. This particular adapter is used to connect the SC740's DVI-I local console port to a VGA monitor.
Question: Will this converter work to convert a VGA signal out of a computer to the 2SVDVI30BND1
Answer: Thank you for your inquiry. The simple answer is yes, however, it is important to note that this is a passive adapter that will not convert analog signals to digital signals. If the 2SVDVI30BND1 is connected to a DVI-D (digital) monitor, the signal coming from the computer must also be digital. In that case, this adapter would not function.
Question: If I use your dvi-to vga adapter, can I expect the same level of resolution as my vga monitor assures (1920x 1xxx). I would be connecting a 2007 Mac Mini to a later model HP monitor. I was told that vga actually gets better and higher res than dvi. I am sure it is also dependent upon the Mac Mini dvi res capabilities, but will using the adapter give me equal or better res in vga format?
Answer: Thank you for your inquiry,
The resolution of your signal depends on your video output card (Mac Mini), so as long as the output source supports 1920 x 1xxx, your resolution can be 1920 x 1xxx. If your Mac Mini supports higher resolutions, the VGA cable will also be able to carry those resolutions. There will not be any change in resolution changing cable types unlesss the resolution is not supported by that cable or the signal type is not supported (Analog on a Digital or vice versa).
It is true that VGA supports higher resolutions than Single-link DVI which is limited at 1920 x 1200 (dual-link can do more). However, resolution is not the same as picture quality - you should not see any noticable degregation of the analog signal quality while using the VAD-27 adapter. That being said, Analog is considered lower quality - for a pixel-perfect image you may want to consider a digital signal setup (DVI-D or DVI-I over digital, HDMI, or DP).
