A USB 3 KVM Switch is a Keyboard-Video-Mouse Switch that utilizes USB 3.0 or USB 3.1 connectors for the switchable peripheral USB Hub ports, or for the keyboard and mouse ports.
USB 3.0 is the third major version of the Universal Serial Bus (USB) standard. USB 3.0 (up to 5 Gbit/s) provides TEN TIMES the capability of USB 2.0 (480 Mbit/s); it also provides up to 900 mA power instead of the 500 mA available with USB 2.0. USB 3 connections are backwards compatible to USB 2.0 and USB 1.1.
USB 3.1 SuperSpeed (USB 3, Gen 2) Specification adds a 10Gbps speed mode that uses a more efficient data encoding and will deliver more than twice the data through-put of USB 3.0. USB 3.1 is also fully backward compatible with older USB connectors and cables such as USB 3.0, 2.0, and 1.1.
